Biography
Timothy Hitchings serves the people of New Castle County Delaware by providing caring, professional legal services in the matters of divorce, child custody, child support, protection from abuse, property division and alimony. He helps people prepare for the future by drafting wills, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives (living wills). He also represents people who have been wrongly accused and arrested. His legal ability is rated "distinguished" and his ethical standards are rated "very high" by the Martindale Hubbell legal directory.
Mr. Hitchings practices in Delaware’s Supreme Court, Family Court, Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas, Justice of the Peace Court, and Alderman's Court.
Mr. Hitchings serves as a charter member of the Parenting Coordination Council of Delaware.
He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Delaware State Bar Association - Family Law Section, and the Melson-Arsht Inn of Court.
He has volunteered his time as a Special Master for Family Court, a Director for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Delaware, a member of the Advisory Counsel for Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness for Community Legal Aid, and a Blood Bank of Delmarva lifesaver. He is a recipient of the Pro Bono Service Award from the Office of the Child Advocate for ten years of service.
He received his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1989 and his B.A. from Graceland University in 1975.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Hitchings worked as a school teacher and served as Executive Director for Common Cause/Delaware.
Mr. Hitchings and his family live in Newark. He is an active member of the Community of Christ.
